Dakine Universal Tailgate Pad Review | Tonneau Friendly & #emtb Ready
#mtb #loamwolf
@dakine's first tailgate pad was released back in 2005! Since then a lot has changed. Looking to offer a pickup pad that is compatible with tonneau covers and shells, Dakine’s Universal Tailgate Pad could be a very welcome accessory for those driving trucks with enclosed beds. We recently picked up a Ford Maverick for a commuter rig and have a roll-up tonneau cover installed on it. When Dakine reached out with word of their new pad, we couldn’t wait to see review it. Let’s see how it’s held up over the last six months.

The ability to purchase and replace the motor on your own is the most important. Stop paying absurd amounts of money (either upfront with purchase price or after warranty) to have a shop do this. I should be able to buy the motor off the shelf for $500 and put it in my bike just like I can with literally every other part on bikes.

Some people laugh at me for riding an Ebike on the trail. I have a few analog bikes and I think even if I were on my analog bike I would still beat you up this hill. Some people tell me emtb tear up the trails and I ask whats the difference if a 20 pound heavier rider than me is on the trail? I weigh 150 pounds with turbo levo carbon 48 pounds together weighs just under 200 pounds. I see people out on the trail that probably weigh 200 pounds without a bike. Should we not allow heavy people on the trails too? As for e-bikers riding too fast both analog and emtb's both can ride the same downhill speed and yes some people ride too fast next to hikers both ebikers and analog bikers can be unsafe. Would it ruin your ride to be courteous and slow down?

I have mostly experienced good vibes from MTBers. Most are pretty stoked to see anyone out there on no matter how crappy of a bike. Ebikes and the 'vid changed things though. I can tell a difference between MTBers who picked up an ebike and people who entered the sport on an ebike. Two anecdotes: I got to the top of a local climb with someone I met on the trail. I guess my pace was a little quicker but he kept up and at the top remarked that he got up in only 30 minutes, which was his fastest time ever. Right then, 2 guys pull up on ebikes and look at each other. I've says, "that slow, really? We always get up here in like 12." I honestly think they were just clueless to what it's like to pedal an acoustic bike up. Second story: a group of 5 of us climbing up a fire road. My buddy in the back of the pack yells, "look out!" Right then, an ebike buzzes by, just squeezing by on my left and nearly clipping my bars. 2 more followed him. Not a single one called out to let us know they were back or turned and apologized as they went by. I think ebikes are great for certain applications, but I will say in general that of those who went straight to emtb since 2020, at least out here in SoCal, many lack trail etiquette. They kind of bring a moto attitude and disrespect acoustics. This isn't hate on emtb, though: I do wish I had one! I'd rip out 6-8 laps instead of 2-3 and get it all as zone 2!

Here’s a thought for Shimano, you’ve got numerous data fields for your screens on EP8 and EP801 systems. Up to four fields per screen. Yet, not a single screen will display battery in percentage with actual numbers. Just a stupid bar graphic. It’s literally the only important data field needed. These systems have been around for years now. Numerous firmware updates. Still no battery percentage field. Does anyone at Shimano actually ride an eMTB? 🤦‍♂️

So after walking around and no interest from the staff i just left to buy from a place that actually cares they have a customer.
